I know nothing about RC model boats and least of all about radio controlled model yachts so take my findings with a grain of salt. However, what I did discover is that sailing a model yacht is not as hard as you might think -- although it doesn't deliver the adrenaline I'm used to when I fly an RC model plane or multirotor.
Never the less, this model went together pretty easily and, despite some obvious limitations (such as my inability to tie knots), seems to scoot across the lake pretty well. The fact that it didn't sink to the bottom of the lake or that I didn't have to go swimming for it is an added bonus!
Since this is the very first time I have sailed a model yacht, I have no frames of reference as to how well it performs but I have to say that if you've ever wanted to give RC yachting a go, you could probably do a lot worse than this model.
One thing to watch though is that you will have to fill the keel yourself with birdshot. Unfortunately I could only buy birdshot in 15Kg bags so now I have over 13Kg of the stuff for which I have no use at all.
Big thanks to Barry for his camera-work. He's getting better every time!
