We’re at the 2015 Tri-Cities Huckfest in Richland, Washington where Tim “SupaTim” Hanstine gives us a walk-around of the new 3DHS 44” Slick 580 and puts her in the air for us.
Tim brought a trailer full of goodness to Huckfest and this was one of his first opportunities to hoist the flag for his new business venture, NorthWestRC. Tim announced that he has become the West Coast Distributor for the new Extreme Flight and 3DHS venture, pretty exciting news indeed. I’m sure you will join me in wishing Tim every success with his new business. He is one of those rare people that get to combine a passion for his hobby with a means to put food on the table for his family. As you will see from a few photos of the container he just received, this is a non-trivial, full time plunge into the world of retail business. Tim’s plan is to be a one-stop-shop for everything you need to get your new plane in the air.
The 44” Slick 580 from 3DHS is going to be a winner, if not for its looks and performance, then for its ability to fly with authority using the very common 3s 2200mAh lipos that we all know and love. It also boasts the new printed color scheme that allows 3DHS to get wild and crazy with its designs. This plane is the perfect size to throw in the car and bang in a few flights when the mood strikes you.
This little Slick 580 is insane on 4s but heed this warning, you WILL fry the motor if you run it hard in back to back flights!!! Please remember that the plane and power combo is designed for a 3s setup.
As for the video itself, well it sucks to not know what you’re doing! When I set the camera up on the tripod, everything looked great so I walked away and did not monitor the LCD screen. What I didn’t know until I got home and looked at the footage, was that the camera’s auto exposure settings were being driven crazy by the glare off the white wing as the sun kept coming in and out of cloud cover. So much to learn, so little skill and talent lol.
