Scratch Built 25% 1929 Monosport 2
Paul was in the right place at the right time and was able to purchase this beautiful, scratch built ¼ scale Monosport 2.
It was built about 15 years ago by Nigel Tarvin who also drew up the plans. She has a 96” wingspan and is powered with a Zenoah G23 engine turning an APC 16x8 prop. This was one of Paul’s first flights on the old girl and she flew like a charm. Paul flew a couple of flights today to try some different props and settled on the 16x8. Now his challenge is to find a nice scale prop with a hub assembly that looks scale.
The servos are all Hitec and she is covered in Monocote. The dummy radial engine is highly detailed and looks great. Her scale landing gear is easily removable and the plane came with a set of scale floats that can be installed for flying off water.
Nice plane Paul and nice flying! She’s quite a departure from your jets ;-)
The real plane that gave inspiration to this model was built in 1929 by the Mono Aircraft Corp. at Moline, Ill.
The Monosport was a slightly larger and higher powered version of the Monocoupe 113. It also had modernized landing gear and elliptical wing tips.
In all, 16 Monosports were built, 9 powered by the 110 hp Warner Scarab, and 7 Model 2's with the 100 hp Kinner K-5.
Following is a link for information about the last known Monosport remaining.
