Comparing FPV feeds and antennas.

Since these days most of my quads have linear polarized antennas on the VTX I decided to try some too on my goggles. Previously I had to RHCP patch antennas on them, not ideal for linear antennas on the VTX but it worked fairly well.
On this video there are two parts, the first shows the Runcam micro v2 on a 3" quad with the battery on the bottom, and the VTX antenna on the top-rear with good clearance, on the second part we have the Runcam Split FPV feed, which, as you can see is wider, that is on a 4" quad with the battery on top and close to the VTX antenna which causes, I think, a worst performance on the feed, I could either mount the battery on the bottom, or raise the antenna.
The Runcam micro was set with a rather blue tone which I like, while the Split is more neutral.
One of the most obvious differences between the two cameras is when facing the sun, on the Split there is still a clear view with no vertical lines coming from the sun's disc, like the Runcam Micro will do, being a CCD sensor. I personally like the Runcam Micro even with that snag, when I fly fast I just seem to enjoy the CCD sensor better, and being fair I had set up my goggles for that one in particular, I am aware that the Runcam Split has higher latency but I don’t seem to notice it.
Perhaps with some work on the Split and my goggles settings things could improve to a similar or even better level.
The occasional blackouts are due to the goggles to DRV cable, not the actual fpv feed.
Conclusions:
The purpose of this experiment was to see if linear polarized antennas on VTX and goggles would work better than linear on VTX and Circular Polarized on the goggles, which is how I was operating. The result is clear, linear on both worked much better, at least in the given site we flew. Just to add that the CP antennas I had been using prior were patch, hence directional, so I enjoyed the almost perfect 360deg performance of the simple linear whips. Its also very cheap to implement if you have a few of these 5.8ghz antennas lying around.
I hope you enjoyed this video, if you did please like and subscribe.
Thanks :)
