In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew joins Research Scientist Paul Kinder at West Virginia University to give a presentation about the possibility of using small, multirotor drone aircraft equipped with FLIR thermal imaging cameras to detect variations in water surface temperature. The goal of this project is to identify thermal refugia – naturally occurring cold water environments – to focus stream restoration efforts to better aid the recovery of native brook trout runs in the Shavers Fork on West Virginia's Cheat Mountain. Their talk includes a review of the basic systems and functions of multirotor drones and First-Person View (FPV) flying technology.
