Fact #1. Nobody likes to sit in the front row of a movie theater. For starters, there's nowhere to put your feet up and no one at whom you can anonymously throw popcorn. Those are two pretty big negatives. The worst part, however, is your viewing experience. Sitting a dozen feet from a movie screen spanning twice that length means you have to turn your neck constantly.
Fact #2. The perfect size for viewing is dependent on the room. Larger kitchens, dorm rooms, smaller bedrooms, or even an RV can greatly benefit from a 32-inch unit. Especially a nice LED option. These utilize light emitting diodes situated behind a liquid crystal display. The LEDs provide the light, while the LCD shapes that light into the image intended.
Fact #3. There are two main ways that LEDs are arranged. They tend to be referred to as either backlit or edgelit. Backlit means it's got a panel behind the screen that light up consistently to form the scene. Edgelit usually indicates one to four strips located across one to four corresponding edges of the screen. For instance, it might have one strip running along its bottom edge. In that case, it would be more difficult to display a bright image toward the top. The latter option suffers on larger sets, but at this size it is a perfectly reasonable way to go.
Fact #4. Television started in the early 1920's with a Scottish inventor named John Logie Baird. He pioneered both the first mechanical and the first purely electronic color television. At the same time in America, Charles Francis Jenkins was busy working on the wireless transmission of images. Jenkins received a patent for his work in 1925.
Fact #5. The medium lasted a century without any real decline. The 2010s have seen a rise of high resolution computer screens and streaming services, however. That has cut into some of the popularity of these boxes.
