Fact #1. The first modern table saw was made in the latter half of the 19th century. Advancements in motors over the subsequent century made them viable. Nowadays, they can be found in woodshops both amateur and professional.
Fact #2. It's just one kind of power saw. That basically just means a saw with a motor. The first kind were circular saws. They automated the job of the sawyer. Instead of employing two men to use their muscles and whipsaws, one could operate the more efficient machine. In the 18th century, these were often powered by wind or water. The more industrial versions might even be powered by animals.
Fact #3. Not all table saws are made equal. There are plenty of options available to buy. But if you're interested in getting one, you should be serious about it. And if you're serious about it, you should expect to spend at least a couple hundred dollars. They can even cost up to around $3,000. Those models aren't necessarily useful for everyone, however. They do have one great benefit. Many of the most expensive models will stop the saw when it encounters human flesh. They can do so within milliseconds. That safety is worth just about any price.
Fact #4. Cheaper options aren't necessarily unsafe. They just need to be used with an extreme amount of caution. You are putting your fingers near extremely quickly rotating bits of metal. Being careful is important no matter what. When considering cost, the other main question is size. Large pieces of wood require larger tables. But smaller tables can also be preferable. Especially if you will need to move them around a work site.
Fact #5. You will need to take proper safety precautions. At the bare minimum this includes eye protection and thick work gloves. It's also a good idea to protect your ears with earmuffs or earplugs. You should also consider a mask. Inhaling fine saw dust particles is not good.
