Well the day finally arrived and after a few years on the drawing board and on the bench, Geoff's awesome 180" Electric 50% Clipped Wing J3 Cub took to the air for its maiden flight. Let's see... a 180" wingspan is 15 feet!
We sat out a brief shower and although it was a bit windy, Geoff took her up.

For those of you who just want to know what's powering this beauty, it's a Hacker A-100 (7500 watts) running on 12s and it gets its power from two sets (4 total) of 6s 5800mAh batteries in series.
Here are a few of the details (see the build thread for more info):
50% Clipped Wing J3 Cub
180" (15') wingspan
144" (12') fuselage (split fuselage)
Hacker A100-10 motor
Hacker 170 ESC
12S-2P 6S 6000 mAh batteries (7500 watts)
Approx. 65 lbs.
Unfortunately, my first video of the day is always shaky and this one is no different. Hopefully, you will get a good idea how well the maiden went.
Geoff did three flights this day and with each flight, started pushing the plane more and more. By the time the third flight came around, Geoff had this 108" Cub doing pretty much every aerobatic maneuver including loops, rolls, inverted flight and even knife edge, etc.
You can look for more videos on this plane in the near future because I think Geoff likes it so much he doesn't want to put it down!
Also, Geoff designed this plane to incorporate a split fuse design so it is easier to transport. He did an amazing job and if there is any interest, I'll post a video of the plane getting assembled at the field.
