NOT A HEMI - READ HERE, BEFORE COMMENTiNG! Today I am a Micro Mechanic - and I was able to get straight to work installing my 1/10th scale Arias Head Chevy Big Block 960hp - into my already BAD-A$$ OUTLAW ULTRA 4 King of the Hammers TRUCK.
This 3D Printed engine was created by Mackey at "DarkDragonWing" RC Customs. The original engine, appears to be based off of a Traditional street blown 540 cubic inch Arias Head Chevy version with 8-71 blower. Reference Site at /
Some may look at this engine as a Hemi Head - but the below reference makes me think otherwise.
Some site Info:
"Nick ARiAS, Jr. introduced his radical new 3-pushrod hemispherical-head conversion for big block Chevys way back in 1972. Intended to bring the Chevy V8 on par with the Chrysler Hemi in Top Fuel Eliminator, it never quite achieved that goal, but it quickly became a roaring success in drag boats, tractor pulling and various other drag racing classes. These early versions all used the Chrysler style oiling system. Arias subsequently introduced a follow-on Top Fuel version in 1975 called the “10-Liter.” This was a clean sheet design with greater displacement and the camshaft raised 5-inches to provide clearance for very long strokes and to reduce valve train harmonics with shorter stiffer pushrods. It also featured shallower combustion chambers and valve train geometry similar to the Chrysler Hemi.
** NOTE: here is where it gets even more interesting - In 2004 the heads were again revised and changed to the current two-pushrod configuration with simplified valve train geometry and Chevy style oiling through the pushrods like a standard big block.
For street rodders the APPEAL is OBVIOUSLY the visual charm of the massive hemi-head valve covers conveying a larger than life “bad boy” image. The Arias heads are powerful performers capable of meeting a variety of performance needs from drag racing to hot street rods and marine applications.
A 439 cubic inch Arias head big block has an Arias injector manifold controlled by a F.A.S.T. engine management system
Screwcharger on this 439 cubic inch Arias head big block pounds out 1200 HP with 8 psi boost.
Fuel Injected version features Arias injector manifold controlled by a F.A.S.T. engine management system. 540 cubic inch injected motor delivers 800-plus HP on pump gas."
Of course, in my world, I am speaking of a new "1/10th scale accessory", that is purely for "show value" and model appreciation!
I eagerly ordered one a few months ago, that I have been waiting with excitement to share here with you. The Radio Control Hobby is all about imagination and being able to bring creations to life. Today I do a tribute to Mackey at the Dark Dragon Wing studio here on YouTube - as I "RC MODiFY" my Axial RR10 Bomber to fit this MASSiVE, and "FUNCTiONAL" Engine.
Built with a functioning smaller, electric motor inside the engine case, it creates a realistic pulley and belt action. Also, becuase of the design, the "start/idle" function is very cool. The Engine reacts to throttle input control on the blower valves, and pulley's. To accommodate this large engine - I had to modify the Bombers chassis braces, fabbing a few mounts, and modifying the aluminum hood to house the blower properly.
BiG SHOUT OUT TO MACKEY for Making such an AWESOME ENGiNE that is simple, easy, and PLUG AND PLAY!
