In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew has a conversation with Chad Budreau, the government and regulatory affairs director for the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). The discussion begins with a pair of announcements made by Federal Aviation Administration Administrator Michael Huerta at AUVSI Xponential 2016. First, that the agency is forming a permanent drone task force, to offer advice and input on a range issues regarding the introduction of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) into the national airspace system. Second, that the FAA will henceforth allow educational activities involving drones to occur under the community-based regulatory framework established by the AMA, rather than the much more cumbersome 333 exemption process – which had been a significant obstacle to the use of drones in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education. Finally, Budreau describes the AMA's ongoing efforts to shape FAA-reauthorization legislation currently moving through both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
