FULL STORY:
At its closest approach to the Sun (3.83 million miles) it will be traveling about 450,000 miles per hour (~125 miles per second). The primary mission of the probe is “to trace the flow of energy and understand the heating of the solar corona and to explore what accelerates the solar wind,” according to NASA/JHUAPL.
