On your next trip to Malaysia, make some new friends at Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary, located in the state of Sabah.
Tucked in the mangrove forests of Samawang, this 400-acre park is home to a particularly distinctive species of primate. The proboscis monkeys are native to Borneo, and are named for their long, protruding noses. While you can’t directly interact with the monkeys—they are wild animals after all—these potbellied critters come out in force during feeding time. Often, they gather around the pedestrian viewing platforms to eat and socialize with one another.
During Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary sightseeing, the monkeys are the stars of the show, but they aren’t alone. You might also see egrets, otters, and crocodiles, among other animals.
