In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew speaks with David Sliwa of Genius Idea, which is producing a pocket drone powered by a pair of commonly available lithium-ion batteries that cost $3 apiece. The aircraft is controlled using a smart device, and includes a rich set of autonomous functions such as programmable waypoints, “Follow Me” mode and facial recognition. In addition, it has flexible limbs and propellers to improve its resistance to damage in a crash. It also has forward facing ultrasonic sensors for collision avoidance, as well as ultrasonic sensors and an optical flow camera on the underside of the aircraft for altitude and position hold. The Genius Idea drone will sell for $400 and will be available in February 2017.
