After having so much fun with the 950mm mini DLG I bought from HobbyKing, I figured I'd also buy the 1000mm one and compare them.
Sadly, I believe that the pod on this DLG is very poorly designed and allows virtually no room for receiver, battery and UBEC or voltage booster. Even FrSky's smallest full-range receiver won't really fit and I've had to make up a 1S2P lipo pack from Turnigy cylindrical cells -- but this leaves the craft woefully tail heavy. An extra 10g of lead will be required to get the CG even close to the suggested position.
What's more, because it's such a very tight squeeze, even just plugging the battery in will be a real mission -- requiring major farting around to get at the plugs and pins involved.
So... what should I do with this $170 craft?
Just write it off as too much hard work?
Cut a hole and mount the receiver behind the servos then patch it up and hope the patch is strong enough?
Let's hear what viewers have to say.
The model being reviewed was purchase from HobbyKing:
Right now, I'm thinking that the 950mm DLG I've reviewed previously represents much better value at less than 2/3 the price:
