The Durafly Tundra RC plane can be flown like a regular high-wing trainer-type model but when you hit the flaps, it becomes a whole lot more fun. Be warned however, that adding flap can make the Tundra a bit harder to fly, especially in turbulent conditions such as those which were in effect during the flight test.
Pros:
- easy to fly (with flaps up)
- *LOTS* of power, unlimited vertical out of the box
- distinctive looks with those big cartoony wheels
- flaps can be very effective
- benign stall with flaps up
- basic aerobatics capabilities
Cons:
- needs a decent (high C) battery for maximum performance
- much more demanding to fly with flap on
- will drop a wing if stalled with flaps down
- aerodynamic counterbalances *do* catch grass stalks
- a *LOT* of nose-up pitch with flap deployment
- nicely coordinated turns require the use of some rudder input
Summary:
This is a great model if you feel the need to move beyond a basic 4-channel trainer but be warned that you will need to practise before those STOL takeoffs and landings become "easy".
