This LCD monitor boasts a 32-channel 5.8GHz diversity receiver and inbuilt DVR so I put it on the RCModelReviews test bench for a critical analysis.
This video is a little longer than it should be because I thought I'd investigate why it is that the voltage alarms and display are so far out of whack -- reading 1.5V lower than the true voltage. As a result, there's also a bit of electronic theory thrown into this review.
Pro's:
- diversity receiver provides nice solid reception
- inbuilt DVR seems to provide good quality recordings
- no blue-screen
- facility for inbuilt battery or external power
- separate date/time backup battery
- good build quality
- standard camera mounting screw threads
- excellent brilliance and contrast in high lighting levels
- protection circuitry to reduce chance of damage by incorrect connections.
- AV in and AV out makes for flexible operation.
Con's:
- battery compartment not deep enough for any sensibly sized 3S pack and 2S batteries can only deliver half their rated capacity if used
- shade screen is difficult to open and has no non-glare finish on the inside.
- frequency change is by DIP switch making it awkward and fiddly
- protection circuitry screws up voltage display and battery alarm functionality
- no auto-detect of PAL/NTSC standards
Stay tuned for part 2 of the review when I'll show you how it performs as an LCD screen in normal daylight conditions and also show you some of the footage recorded by the DVR.
