Maximum range test flight with my $68 WLToys V222 video quadcopter. This is a great quadcopter with built-in camera for simple, cheap, and easy aerial video tasks.
This flight was meant to test the maximum horizontal range. In this test I oriented the antenna vertically to evaluate horizontal range. I noticed that with this antenna I could fly almost twice the distance vs the stock transmitter antenna. But this range increase comes with a price. The antenna beam lobes are much more directional. I had to focus on maintaining orientation of the antenna sides toward the copter. Otherwise the quadcopter would easily fly out of the beam at distance, and lose control signal.
