I don’t usually upload crash videos, but when I do…..
We had an awesome time at the 2015 Tri-Cities Huckfest hosted by the Miniature Aircraft Association and held at their field in Richland, Washington. (That was a mouthful) In addition to some spectacular flying, the pilots were kind enough to put on an epic clinic showing how to crash your 120cc plane in a spectacular fashion. In all cases, and there were several, the pilots had an amazing attitude and had no hesitation in giving their blessing to post the crash videos.
In this case, “Ryan, don’t call me Ryan" Chris Randall (also known as “Chris” and/or “McRandall” as well as several other aliases) lost his 3DHS 104" AJ Slick due to a very slight but critical miscalculation of the adjustment required to deal with the peculiar effects of gravity that seem present in the Tri-Cities area. We think it has something to do with UFO’s. In any event, McRandall, under the watchful eye of Harvey D, was making his first (ill fated) attempt at the runway wing tip scrape routine made popular by the young Harvey Diamond himself. Well, it sounded like a good idea at the time! As you’ll see, it did not go quite as planned. I guess it might have had a better chance of success if the plane was actually over the pavement when it touched instead of digging into the dirt!!!! Easy for me to say or, in the famous words of nobody, "I'm just saying".
Tragically, this was the plane’s first flight of the day and came on the heels of an amazing flight the night before when McRandall wowed the crowd with one of the best flights of the event and probably racked up a personal best flying like it was an out of body experience.
I was going to save this crash footage for a Huckfest Crash Compilation video but because of recent Facebook activity, there was some interest in getting the video posted sooner than later. I will still do the crash compilation video :-)
For what it's worth, I tried to show a replay of the crash in slow motion but either the raw video quality was too poor or the El Cheapo editing software I'm using got heartburn, so the final result was awful and looked very pixelated.
We are very sorry for your loss Chris/McRandall/insert name of your choice here.
Many thanks to Doug, Clark, their awesome better halves and the rest of the Miniature Aircraft Association crew for putting on such a great event! Because you managed to get everything right, I guess we'll all have to come back for more next year!
Stay tuned for more action from the 2015 Tri-Cities Huckfest held at Richland Washington.
