Hope you found this first tuning guide helpful :) This was a somewhat general overview and I plan on making more in depth explanations of tuning. Please consider supporting me on Patreon.
Lots of people have asked, so here it is. A tuning overview of how I tune my copters. This is not a 100% tune, it is probably more like a 90% tune, so there is more to be done, but it is very close. Everyone has their own way of tuning, and I respect that. Keep in mind I prefer to keep propwash at a minimum even if the sticks are a little soft as I just fly around it.
Tuning P: Generally I raise P on each axis until it "feels" good and sharp. Also I keep D low to bring out P term oscillations so I know once I have reached the limit of the P value.
Tuning I: I is "somewhat" independent of P and D, in that it won't really affect them to much so you can tune it when you like. I generally boost the numbers up until the copter holds steady on throttle punches and drops. (I alone won't solve "dip", it needs a high enough P to stay stable)
Tuning D: D term is a little more dangerous than the others, as if the value becomes too high and overactive, it will amplify the noise and can smoke your motors. I keep D low till the P feels good and there is some oscillation/propwash, and then raise it till it minimizes those. When raising D make sure to fly for 30 seconds then check your motor temps to make sure you aren't going to smoke anything.
Tuning Propwash: Propwash is the hardest thing to tune out, and should be one of your last "priorities". Generally lowering P and raising D will reduce it, but there is only so much you can do. Also you may run into the barrier of "I got rid of it, but now the copter is sloppy". This is common and you just have to find the balance between P and D that will keep the oscillations down, yet still feel sharp.
