Welcome to Koh Chang, a small island some 200 miles away from Bangkok.
One of the first things you’ll learn when you arrive in Koh Chang is that its name means “elephant island,” though you aren’t likely to run into any actual elephants while visiting. As you wander through small villages and stay in shacks that totter over estuaries, you’ll realize that Koh Chang’s tourism is powered mainly by travelers searching for peace and tranquility. The island has a handful of resorts, but most visitors relish the quiet, simple life of Koh Chang and its inhabitants.
Koh Chang sightseeing often features a healthy dose of the sea. The island is part of the Mu Ko Chang Marine National Park, and is full of beautiful spots to swim and dive. Fishing is a large part of the local economy, and once you’re done snorkeling through the surrounding reefs, you’re welcome to sample fresh-caught seafood purchased at one of the many small markets in the local villages. Afterward, slip into the emerald jungle to catch a glimpse of the island’s many stunning waterfalls, or settle down next to a quiet stream to rest and reflect.
