This is a test video taken with my iPhone 6 filming some Twisted Hobbys foamies. I was replying to a text from my significant other when it dawned on me that I had never tried to take a video with my phone.
Harv and Kris were flying their Twisted Hobbys Crack Lasers (Lite) and Ron was flying his Twisted Hobbys Crack Turbo Beaver.
When I got home and took a look at the video, I was pretty impressed with the video quality. It seemed to struggle a little bit with the iris setting but it was a cloudy, overcast day with the odd peek at some clear sky so it might have been getting tricked a bit.
All in all I’d have to give the video quality a thumbs up. I know all you Android users will say that your phone’s camera is as good or better but that’s not the point of this video. I’m sure all smartphones take great video. It’s just that I had never tried to video anything with my phone and I'm pretty happy with the results. It won’t replace my camcorder but it looks like it would do a decent job if I didn't have my camcorder with me when a target of opportunity presents itself.
I was thinking that maybe some of those that use a GoPro to film their own flights might want to consider using their smartphones instead. The planes don’t seem to disappear and become a dot in the sky as quickly as they seem to when filming with a GoPro from the ground.
This is not an endorsement for iPhones so please get over yourself if you came here to bash them. It’s just a phone! I've picked up a few trolls that are leaving a dislike on many of my videos so I’ll just add the iPhone bashers to the collection. It’s a weird world we live in.
