This is a quick shakedown flight and a look at Paul’s progress with his build of a Carf-Models USA composite T-27 Tucano powered by a JetCat SPT5 V3 Turboprop swinging a Biela 24x12 three-blade Carbon prop. This was the maiden flight for the power plant. There's a brisk and gusting cross wind from the West. Paul’s Tucano is in the Brazilian Red demo team colors.
It takes more than a little nerve and a good set of brakes to fly this plane off our short and bumpy grass runway! As you’ll see in the video, there wasn’t much room to spare when landing with full braking!
It’s taken Paul approximately 250 hours to configure and install all of the equipment and perform all of the function checks and programming. He’s still working on perfecting the gear door function plus tuning the smoke system. Paul will soon turn his attention to the installation of a scale lighting system and scale cockpit.
There are a pair of BLS172 servos 475 oz-in on the elevators and five BLS 272's on the flaps, ailerons and nose gear steering. The rudders are 9152 Futaba.
Landing gear is the kit’s stock air actuated retracts and the brake system has a Xicoy proportional electronic valve that allows control of brake pressure from the transmitter.
There is split radio system based on a Futaba R7008 SB S-Bus receiver with telemetry.
A huge shout out to Dale T for the awesome still photo used in the title slide, thanks Dale!
Thanks for watching and happy flying!
