If you fly 250-sized FPV mini quadcopters then you are probably used to breaking lots of Gemfan or HQ props when you crash so when Surveilzone claimed they were selling a super-tough propeller, I had to put it to the test.
Yes, these are super-tough propellers but they are not at all efficient, delivering just 2.76g of thrust per watt. Here are some other prop/motor efficiencies for comparison sake:
GF5030 - 3.85g/Watt (Quanum 2204/2300 motor, 3S)
GF5040 - 3.36g/Watt " "
GF5040 - 3.24g/Watt (1806/2300 motor, 3S)
HQ5030 - 3.84g/Watt " " "
CF5030 - 3.51g/Watt " " "
HQ5045 - 2.58g/Watt " " "
Only the HQ 5x4.5 bullnose prop is less efficient than the Surveilzone 5040 props.
Pro's:
- yes, they are *very* tough
- well priced
- seem well balanced straight out of the packet
- flexible enough not to transfer excessive stress to the motors
Con's:
- not very efficient, fewer grams of thrust per watt than the GF5040
- colors are a bit dull (I like em bright!)
- you will probably have to re-tune your quad to restore its handling
- appear to cavitate a little in hard turns
Bottom line:
If you're crashing regularly and aren't concerned with maximum speed or punch-out, these props could save you fortune in cash terms and hours of time wasted with a spanner.
They're a thumbs-up from me.
The review props were purchased at full retail price from Surveilzone:
