The "Toybota". For me, one of the most iconic and memorable vehicles that was built on the now classic show - BBC's "TOP GEAR". The Toybota is an Amphibious Vehicle that can drive from Land to Water, and Back to Land again - built by Jeremy Clarkson and his team. The total weight of my truck is 13.5 LB's. Every time a visitor comes to my shop and lifts this truck, they are always amazed at how heavy it is! Anyways, I digress: there were two episodes that featured a floating truck.
Here are the BBC Videos of Reference:
BBC Top Gear Car-Boat Challenge: Toyota "Toybota"
BBC Top Gear CAR/Boat Challenge: Nissan "Nissank"
Many viewers may be wondering how I made this truck - and how the heck it can go in water - if it is electric?! Here is a playlist I have on YouTube: You can pick the episode you want to see :)
The outboard motor I have on the truck is from an RC speed boat called the "Stiletto". This motor is mounted to the truck bed and it is powered by a 3s (11.1v) lithium battery. This is mimicking the engine Jeremy put on the "Toybota" / "Nissank".
Jeremy Clarkson insisted he had on the back of the original Hilux Toybota, (as well as the Nissan "Nissank"), in the Car Boat Challenge episodes. Both of those episodes were some of my favourite. They inspired me to see if I can do it with this model.
As you can see this is rather entertaining - and though I run into some challenges - they are easily overcome. I am surprised at how many problems we do have that are similar to the full size vehicle.
I suggest checking out the original BBC video linked above.. they are a blast to watch in full size!
The Radio System I switched to in this video was a Flysky FS-I6S 10ch 2.4G AFHDS 2A RC Transmitter Control w/ FS-iA6B Receiver Get one here: ()
RADIO HIGHLIGHTS:
Low Power Consumption : The system is built using highly sensitive low power consumption components, maintaining high receiver sensitivity, while consuming as little as one tenth the power of a standard FM system, dramatically extending battery life.
Bidirectional Communication : Capable of sending and receiving data, each transmitter is capable of receiving data from temperature ,altitude and many other types of sensors, servo calibration and i-BUS Support.
Multi-channel Hopping Frequency : This systems width ranges from 2.4055GHz to 2.475GHz. This is divided in 140 channels. Each transmitter hops between 16 channels (32 for Japanese and Korean versions) in order to reduce interference from other transmitters.
Omni-directional Gain Antenna : The high efficiency Omni-directional high gain antenna cuts down on interference, while using less power and maintaining a strong reliable connection.
Unique ID Recognition System : Each transmitter and receiver has its own unique ID. Once the transmitter and receiver have been paired, they will only communicate with each other, preventing other systems accidentally connecting to or interfering with the system's operation.
