The Dynam P-47D has a 48" or 1220mm wingspan, a 40amp esc with a 500kv motor and runs on 4s. The recommended battery is a 4s 2200mAh but I used a 2650mAh shoved all the way to the front and the CG is perfect.
All it needed to achieve perfect trim was two clicks of up. (My trim steps are cut in half so it was really only one click with the JR 9503's default trim steps.)
Because we've had some experience flying Dynam warbirds off our grass field, on spec I raked the landing gear with one thickness of Popsicle stick when I put the plane together. I am happy to report that this worked out great and there were no nose overs on take-offs or landings.
The plane is flap ready and has cut-outs for the flap servos. I have yet to install flaps and as you can see on the video, she lands nice and short and comes to a stop quickly (on a grass field).
The motor, esc and prop combination that comes with this plane provide it with ample power to exceed scale speeds and make it a lot of fun to fly. It's not super-fast but it is fun fast.
Although this PNP plane version comes with pre-installed LED Nav lights, Dynam does not provide a controller to operate the lights. (Like the one that is installed in the Ready to Fly version) I checked and it seems that Dynam does not even offer the controller as an option part. I think this is pretty lame. If I decide to hook up the lights, I will probably use the controller from this Hobby King light set.
I've got a few of them and it should do a good job of controlling the lights and stepping down the voltage so you don't burn out the LEDs.
Positives:
Good quality, excellent fit of the foam parts, nice scale detail.
Retracts included
Low parts count, assembles very quickly
Precut decals (other manufacturers please take note!)
Decent pilot figure
Pre-installed LED Nav lights (see "Negatives")
Pre-installed Deans plug on ESC
Excellent handling on the ground and in the air
Adequate power
Takes a 4s 2650mAh battery and it's easy to get the COG right.
Retracts (with a shim to increase the rake) handle grass fields just fine and there were no nose overs!!!
Reasonable price. This one gives you a lot of bang for the buck.
Negatives:
No controller provided for the pre-installed LED Nav lights. How lame is that!
Adequate power (Scale purist will hate me for suggesting that this is a negative.) In its stock form, it can easily fly in excess of scale speeds but hey, if you have the need for speed...big is better and biggest is best. A prop change might be fun to screw around with! I guess this isn't really a negative, just wishful thinking!
In summary, we felt this one gets two thumbs up. Anyone in the market for a 48" foamie warbird might want to put this on a list of planes to consider because it stacks up very nicely against the competition, especially at its price.
Shout outs:
To Super Dave for taking the awesome still photos of the plane in flight
To Leigh for doing a great job on the sticks for the maiden
To Delfin at SN Hobbies for providing this plane for review
