Reversed ailerons on the maiden flight! Crap! We all watched Ken do a check of his control surfaces and it was good to go. He placed in on the runway and then realized that he hadn't set up his timer. When he accessed the menu on his 9503, it was on the servo reversing screen. As he exited this screen to access the timer menu, he inadvertently reversed the aileron setting.
On take-off, he wanted to bank left. As it started to roll right, what do you do? Well, you give it more left (but really right) aileron. Splat.
This was an easy mistake to make. Was it avoidable? Yes. Even in the excitement of a maiden, it's so important to recheck your control surfaces after making any kind of programming adjustment to the radio. Easy to say, not so easy to remember on the day when all you're worried about is will my new plane fly and there is a high pucker factor?
Undaunted, Ken went home that evening and threw 30 pounds of bondo on his newly crashed plane and attacked it with a variety of power sanders lol. It's now ready for action. If you want a laugh, watch Ken demonstrating the fine art that is model aircraft repair. Here's a link to his video:
This Habu was built for speed with an insane motor/fan/esc combination and we'll go over the details when he makes a second attempt at the maiden.
Thanks for watching!
